Four buildings on our site contain permanent exhibitions which include pioneer of powered flight, John Stringfellow; creator of artificial limbs in leather, James Gillingham; Britain s first woman cabinet minister, Margaret Bondfield; international farm machinery makers, Dening of Chard. The main new displays feature WW1 memorablilia, Chard roads, railway and canal, archive photographs, model aircraft and heritage models made by John Courtney, Donyatt pottery, Chard Carnival costumes and lots more . The carnival costumes have been used over a period of 35 years on several local circuits on both floats and by walking entries. They have become more impressive and elaborate in that time.
